About
Kaur Design
Kaur Design is an interiors journal documenting the slow renovation of a Victorian flat in Telegraph Hill, South East London. It is a record of design decisions, collected objects, found pieces and the quiet process of turning a period property into somewhere deeply personal.
Designing a home that feels personal rather than perfect
Set within the historic neighbourhood of Telegraph Hill in South East London, this Victorian flat renovation explores the relationship between contemporary living and the architectural legacy of one of London’s most distinctive residential conservation areas. Originally developed in the late nineteenth century on land owned by the Worshipful Company of Haberdashers, Telegraph Hill was envisioned as a collection of elegant homes positioned along wide, tree-lined streets, a character that continues to define the area today.
Our Apporach
The apartment sits within this rich architectural context, where harmonious Victorian facades, period detailing, and a strong sense of neighbourhood identity have shaped the atmosphere of the surrounding streets for generations. The renovation takes inspiration from this inherited character while introducing a more contemporary, liveable approach suited to modern London life.
The Design Approach
The design balances contemporary minimalism with a layered, collected aesthetic. Integrated architectural elements, clean lines, and thoughtful storage solutions are softened through vintage furniture, antique objects, warm tonal palettes, and whimsical decorative details. Rather than creating a perfectly uniform interior, the intention is to build a home that feels personal, evolving, and deeply connected to its setting, somewhere modern yet rooted in history.
Materiality plays a central role throughout the space. Marble surfaces, brass accents, bespoke cabinetry, and muted colours establish a calm architectural backdrop, allowing carefully curated objects and collected pieces to bring warmth, texture, and individuality into the home. Influenced by Victorian architecture, eclectic European interiors, and romantic London apartments, the renovation embraces contrast: minimal yet expressive, functional yet decorative, refined yet full of character.
Working within the compact footprint of a Victorian flat has also informed the project’s direction, encouraging thoughtful spatial planning and multifunctional design solutions that support contemporary urban living while preserving openness and visual calm. The result is an ongoing renovation that reflects both the historic DNA of Telegraph Hill and a more personal interpretation of modern London interior design.
